Get Your Jewellery Inspected…Here’s Why!

← Back to Our Blog

Our jewellery can take a real beating.  Worn every day, it is susceptible to bumps, scratches, dents, exposure to chemicals, and just regular wear and tear, etc.  There is nothing more disheartening than losing a piece of jewellery when it could have been prevented simply by having it inspected on a regular basis.

The first thing your jewellery should be checked for is its safety.  Your jeweller should look for any loose or chipped stones and worn or broken claws. Basically, your jewellery will be checked for general wear and tear.  Your jeweller will tell you if the claws need to be re-tipped or if a stone needs to be tightened.  It’s better to tend to these issues than risk losing a precious stone or enduring further wear and tear that can be prevented.

Most jewellers have an ultra-sonic cleaning machine so that your jewellery can be cleaned professionally and look like it did the day you bought it. It can also prevent further wear and tear from dirt particles that accumulate over time.  Also at this time, you can decide if your jewellery would benefit from being polished and/or rhodium plated to bring back some of the lustre and shine to your piece.

A jewellery inspection is appropriate every 8 – 12 months, depending on how often you wear each piece.  It really helps prevent potential mishaps (such as losing a diamond due to a broken claw, for example) and keeps your jewellery in top-notch condition.
