Birthstone of the Month: Aquamarine

← Back to Our Blog

The birthstone for the month of March is aquamarine. Aquamarine is a serene gemstone with cooling and soft colour tones, ranging from greenish-blue to blue-green. These two colours together really brightens up the wardrobe and are a great pairing for spring and summer styles. Aquamarine is mainly mined in Brazil; however it can also be found in Nigeria, Madagascar, Zambia as well as the Karakoram Mountains in Pakistan. With them being readily-available, especially in large sizes, aquamarine is an affordable gemstone.

The name “aquamarine” comes from the Latin word aqua which means water, sea and marina. This name was given to aquamarine because of the colour of the gemstone. It is also believed that this stone protected sailors and ensured them a safe voyage while they were out at sea.

With its soft yet subtle colouring, aquamarine is a desired gemstone to have in the jewellery box. With springs warm pastel colours and summers bold prints and colours, aquamarine is suitable to match styles in both season’s wardrobes. Aquamarine is most commonly found in rings, pendants and earrings. This gemstone would also look stunning in an engagement ring; whether it is in a halo setting or a three stone setting, the diamonds would really compliment the soft green and blue colouring of the aquamarine. The colouring of this gemstone will also look exquisite in either white or yellow gold, depending on your preference.
