Barrie’s Got Pride

← Back to Our Blog

Did you know that this is the 5th year that Barrie has raised the Pride Flag at City Hall? It’s so important to recognize how far we have come as a society. With more open hearts and minds, information, knowledge and awareness, we can truly become an inclusive society. That would mean that a person would not be discriminated against due to one’s race, nationality or ethnic origin, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, family status, genetic characteristics, and disability.

Thanks to organizations such as Barrie Pride, and such events as Barrie Pride Parade & Festival, diversity, fighting stigma and showing pride has encouraged others to celebrate differences, demonstrate acceptance and honour culture.

From June 3 to 11, 2018, Barrie celebrates a full week of events that welcomes the community to participate in a festival and celebration of diversity and culture. People are encouraged to attend the multiple events that are being offered; a flag raising at city hall, a parade at Heritage park, various performances on the stage at Heritage Park, Family Friendly areas, various workshops and the provision of educational material.

Everyone is welcome, and our support is needed. Let’s all stand up for diversity and culture. Wishing all the organizers and participants a successful week of fun, education and community.
